First day of a new year!  I knew this class would be different, for several reasons:  only 6 of the 16 attended our K-4 program AND when I tested the new students, several of them tested low.

I'm so glad there is only ONE first day each year!!!  Couldn't handle more than one!  By 10:00 I was ready to change my name.  All I kept hearing was...Mrs. Bates...Mrs. Bates...Mrs. Bates.  They were SO hungry for attention.

We worked a lot with our names!  2 of the students couldn't correctly count the letters in their name. 

We read Pete the Cat in his Groovy School Shoes.  Then we went on a school tour.  After that we talked about what Pete looked like.  I put the book on the chalkboard tray.  Then they started coloring.  Somehow we ended up with yellow, orange, green, and rainbow cats.
